American Song Contest 2022: Who are the contestants?

FOR more than 50 years, countries in Europe have come together for an annual singing competition known as the Eurovision Song Contest.

After years of rumored development, The United States equivalent – titled American Song Contest premiered in March 2022.

When is the American Song Contest on?

American Song Contest premiered at 8pm on March 21, 2022, on NBC.

The show will air every Monday night from 8pm to 10pm ET and will take place over the course of eight weeks. The Grand Final is scheduled for May 9, 2022.

The competition series is also available to stream on Hulu or Peacock.

Who are the contestants?

Musicians from all 50 states, five surrounding territories, and Washington, DC are competing in the contest.

On March 3, 2022, NBC revealed the participants who are competing on the show.

The competitors include a mix of lesser-known musicians, as well as singer-songwriters who already found mainstream success.

“This show is not for the 15-year-old whose family doesn’t know they sing, and they are going to come out on The Voice or American Idol, or (America’s Got Talent) and blow people away,” Executive producer Audrey Morrissey told USA Today.

“This is a professional platform. This is for the artists, the person who is committed to, ‘This is what I’m doing in my life, and I’ve been grinding it and working it on the road for years.’”

A solo artist, duo, or band will represent each location across three rounds of competition to secure the title of Best Original Song.

Who are the judges?

Snoop Dogg and Kelly Clarkson were announced as the hosts of the upcoming season of the American Song Contest during the Super Bowl LVI halftime show on February 13, 2022.

“I am honored to host American Song Contest alongside my lil sis Kelly Clarkson, aka Miss Texas,” said Snoop in a statement.

Kelly added, “I have been a fan and love the concept of Eurovision and am thrilled to bring the musical phenomenon to America.

“I’m so excited to work with Snoop and can’t wait to see every state and territory represented by artists singing their own songs.”

In 2021, Snoop and Kelly appeared together on the 20th season of The Voice, another singing competition.

Kelly served as a coach, while Snoop appeared as a mentor.

What is the American Song Contest?

Based on Eurovision, American Song Contest is a nationwide singing competition.

Eurovision first debuted in 1956 and features artists from primarily European countries facing off with original music.

In 1971, Eurovision was broadcast in the continental United States for the first time.

Plans to develop an American version of the song contest began circulating as early as 2006.

It wasn’t until 2019, that Eurovision producers Christer Björkman and Ola Melzig secured the rights to launch an American adaptation.

According to Björkman, various cities across Nevada and Florida have been considered for hosting duties, including Orlando, Tampa, and Las Vegas.
